Getting Started

HelpMeRemember sends you reminders via email or Slack on whatever schedule you set. Before creating reminders, you need at least one verified notification channel. Your account email is ready to use immediately — no setup required.

Email Notifications

Your Account Email

HelpMeRemember sends you reminders via email or Slack on whatever schedule you set. Before creating reminders, you need at least one verified notification channel. Your account email is ready to use immediately — no setup required.

Adding More Email Addresses

You can add additional email addresses (e.g. a work address) and send individual reminders to any of them.

  1. Go to Preferences Email Addresses.
  2. Enter a label (e.g. “Work”) and the email address, then click Send verification.
  3. Check that inbox for a verification link and click it.
  4. The address now appears in your email list and in the “Send to” dropdown when creating reminders.

Setting a Default Email Address

If you have multiple verified addresses, you can set one as the default so new reminders go there automatically:

  1. Go to Preferences Email Addresses.
  2. Click Make default next to the address you want.

You can also choose a default in Preferences Defaults Default email address.

Slack Notifications

Connecting Your Slack Workspace

  1. Go to PreferencesSlack.
  2. Click Connect Slack.
  3. Authorize HelpMeRemember in your Slack workspace.
  4. You’ll be redirected back to Preferences — your direct message (DM) channel is added automatically.

Sending to Your Direct Messages

After connecting, a DirectMessage destination is created automatically. Reminders sent here arrive as a DM from the HelpMeRemember app in Slack. No extra setup needed.

Adding Slack Channels

You can route reminders to any Slack channel — useful for team notifications or project-specific reminders.

  1. Go to Preferences Slack Add channel.
  2. Enter the channel name (e.g. #reminders).
  3. Click Add.

The channel is now available in the “Send to” dropdown when creating a reminder.

Public Channels

Public channels work immediately after you add them — no extra steps required.

Private Channels

Private channels require one extra step: you need to invite the HelpMeRemember bot into the channel before it can post.

  1. Open the private channel in Slack.
  2. Type /invite @HelpMeRemember and press Enter.
  3. Add the channel in Preferences as described above.

Note: If a reminder to a private channel fails silently, this is almost always the cause. Invite the bot first.

Setting a Default Slack Destination

To have new Slack reminders default to a specific channel or DM:

  1. Go to PreferencesSlack.
  2. Click Make default next to the destination you want.

Disconnecting Slack

Go to Preferences→Slack→DisconnectSlack. This removes all Slack channel configurations. Existing reminders set to Slack will fail to send until you reconnect.

Creating Reminders

Choosing a Notification Channel

When creating a reminder, select Email or Slack from the Channel dropdown. If you have multiple destinations set up for that channel type, a Send to dropdown appears so you can pick the exact one.

Schedule Options

  • One-time — fires once on the date and time you choose, then archives automatically.
  • Daily — fires every day at the specified time.
  • Weekly — fires on a specific day of the week.
  • Every Two Weeks — fires every other week on the chosen day.
  • Monthly — fires on a specific day of the month, or on a weekday occurrence (e.g. “2nd Tuesday”).
  • Yearly — fires on a specific month and day each year.

Managing Your Preferences

Default Channel

In Preferences Defaults, choose whether new reminders default to Email or Slack. You can always override this per-reminder when creating one.

Time of Day Labels

You can define what “Morning,” “Afternoon,” and “Evening” mean so that natural-language scheduling works the way you expect. Set the times in Preferences Defaults Time of day labels.

“Next Week” Preference

Set which day of the week “next week” starts on (e.g. Monday or Sunday) in Preferences → Defaults → “Next week” means.

Troubleshooting

My Slack reminder did not arrive

  • If the channel is private, make sure you have typed /invite @HelpMeRemember inside that channel before adding it.
  • Check that the channel name is spelled correctly in Preferences.
  • If your Slack connection was recently changed, try disconnecting and reconnecting in Preferences.

I am not receiving verification emails

  • Check your spam or junk folder.
  • Go to Preferences Email Addresses and click Resend verification.

A reminder fired but nothing arrived

Reminders retry automatically up to three times if delivery fails. If you still do not receive it after a few minutes, check that your notification channel is still connected in Preferences.
